A Cold Dark Placeby Toni Anderson
Mallory Rooney, an FBI agent, has been looking for her sister’s kidnapper for the past 18 years. Mallory believes she may have finally discovered him since the bodies of his victims have her sister’s initials carved into them. Former soldier Alex Parker is a highly decorated, but wounded, war hero who has a dark side as a predator-hunter for the government. He is now also investigating the murders.
Alex is compelled to emerge from hiding to defend Mallory when danger approaches, and they are forced to work quickly to identify the murderer. However, the lies and betrayals that characterize Alex’s life pose a threat to their mutual destruction, particularly as Mallory becomes the next target of the person who kidnapped Alex’s sister all those years ago.

Mallory and Alex, the two main characters, were a lot of pleasure to come to know. In their own unique ways, both individuals were rather tragic. Mallory, who must live without her twin sister and shares an exact resemblance with the little child still being sought after each year by a senator. And Alex, the former soldier who lived the death of his friends and a Moroccan prison. These two were great.
Mallory Rooney, an FBI special agent, has been working to identify the person or individuals who abducted her twin sister when she was just nine years old. As she works on the case, she starts to suspect that there may be both a vigilante killer and a serial killer at large. Previously employed by the CIA, Alex Parker is now employed by a covert government agency that eliminates serial killers and paedophiles before they are brought before the courts. Additionally, he is one of the proprietors of a high-tech security firm.
Mallory, the main character, is a rookie police officer who joined the FBI to look for the guy who kidnapped her twin sister when they were just eight years old. A mysterious government entity hires the protagonist, Alex Parker, an ex-soldier, to take on the role of the vigilante and eliminate serial killers and paedophiles.
When Mallory looked into the potential that vigilante actions may have killed a serial killer, Alex’s and her paths diverged. Alex made the decision to monitor Mallory personally rather than let his senior management “dispose” of her. Mallory had never stopped looking for resolution during her entire life and had never stopped living. The first male to divert her attention and inspire a desire to occasionally be free of her own devil is Alex.
Alex is one of the soldiers who has experienced too many injustices from the government. It’s not pleasant to think back on his time in the army. His work as a vigilante killer is now the only way he can obtain the freedom he wants. He had been keeping track of the days till he was free of the government’s control. Mallory might have just been the incident that changed his eventual goal.
Mallory is making progress in solving this cold case because a serial killer who may be connected to her identical sister is still at large. But the ongoing secret between Alex and Mallory actually intrigues me more. How will she respond once she learns who Alex really is, and how can he save himself from his impending doom? His selflessness in assisting Mallory behind the scenes without anticipating a happy ending with her is what makes him such a terrific man.
