A Storm of Swords by George R. R. Martin
The hostilities continue to rage ferociously as alliances are formed and broken despite the fact that one of the five aspirants for dominance is dead and another is out of favour. The uncomfortable king of the Seven Kingdoms, Joffrey of House Lannister, sits on the Iron Throne. Lord Stannis, his fiercest opponent and the victim of the envious sorceress who controls him, stands humiliated and vanquished. But from his stronghold in Riverrun, young Robb of House Stark continues to rule the North. Even as they imprison his sister at King’s Landing, the home of the Iron Throne, Robb schemes against his hated Lannister adversaries. In the meantime, Daenerys, the exiled queen and the owner of the last three dragons in existence, is travelling through a continent covered in blood.
An army of ferocious wildlings, meanwhile, arrives from the furthest reaches of civilization as the opposing forces prepare for the decisive titanic confrontation. A legion of fabled Others, a supernatural army of the living dead whose animated corpses are unstoppable, are at their forefront. No one will stop until the Seven Kingdoms have erupted in a true storm of swords because the fate of the land is on the line.

The battle for the Iron Throne is still raging, and Westeros is involved. It doesn’t appear like the violence and destruction will end anytime soon because there are five candidates vying for the right to rule the Seven Kingdoms. The Wildlings outside are planning an assault to breach the Wall, overwhelm the severely undermanned Night’s Watch, and invade. Here is where things are also heating up in the North. Daenerys is still gathering resources in the East to aid in her plans to attack the throne. As the Khaleesi and the Mother of Dragons, she journeys through the cities of Slaver’s Bay, collecting followers and asserting her rising power.
If Storm of Swords belonged to any character, Jon Snow is most likely the rightful owner. Jon was brought to Mance Rayder, the king beyond the wall, at the beginning of Clash of Kings. Jon was caught by the wildlings at the end of Clash of Kings. Ygritte, for whom Jon has affections that are becoming harder to deny, and Rayder’s persistent inquiries about Jon’s allegiance and the status of the watch hinder Jon’s plan to spy on the wildlings. It goes without saying that a conflict between Mance and The Watch is developing, and Jon must decide whether or not he wants to warn them.
the conflict between the Lannisters and the Starks. The battle between the two dominant houses that divided the realm began when King Joffrey executed the show’s protagonist Ned Stark. In an effort to exact revenge on his father, remove the Lannisters from power, and restore the North’s autonomous status after his father’s passing, his son Robb was crowned The King Of The North by his father’s bannermen.
Robb has never lost a battle, but he is now losing the war and is nearly out of options because of the Lannisters’ partnership with House Tyrell, whose army numbers over 100,000, and his mother’s covert release of Jaime Lannister and the Ironmen, who are besieging and holding the North. Tywin Lannister believes that the fight is essentially finished, but the King of the North devises one more strategy that might win the war for the North, albeit he will need to rely on some odd allies to pull it off. But can they actually pull it off?
