Babylon’s Ashes by James S. A. Corey

A long-brewing revolution has started in the fire. It’s going to end in blood. A ruthless band of Belters operating out of black-market military ships, known as the Free Navy, have crippled Earth and started a campaign of piracy and mayhem throughout the outer worlds. No single navy is still powerful enough to defend colony ships travelling to the thousand new worlds on the opposite side of the alien ring gates because they are easy prey.

Nobody is more familiar with the advantages and disadvantages of this new force than James Holden and his team. In need of a last-ditch effort to reach Medina Station in the centre of the gate network, the beleaguered survivors of the former political powers call on the Rocinante.

Yet, the power struggle has only started, and the new alliances are just as flawed as the old ones. An alien enigma deepens as the commotion spreads. Pirate fleets, rebellion, and treason might not even rank among Rocinante’s issues. The decisions made by a small group of broken and desperate individuals in the strange areas beyond the ring gates may affect more than just humanity.

An obviously brilliant man who, for the most part, just keeps his head down and enjoys his daughter, his new family, or his dataset runs while fine-tuning plant and system biology using his skills and knowledge. It’s well claimed that his background made him conscious of the changes this time in Ganymede. There was a nice tie-in that he decided to perform as a result of straightforward outreach videos that began with Holden.

The Earth was a planet in ruins when we last left the Expanse universe. Millions of people have been killed as a result of the Free Navy, led by Marco Inaros, dumping boulders onto the planet’s surface and destroying its infrastructure. His objective is to alter the Solar System’s governmental system. He has started assaulting colony ships, which are ships that are making their way toward the ring gates in order to leave the Solar System and begin new lives. He believes that his people, the Belters, have consistently received unfair treatment and that a new government should be established with his people at the top of the food chain.

Everyone in the Solar System except for his own people wants to stop him, but neither the Earth nor the Martian Navy has the strength or resources to do it. Even some of his own followers have begun to turn against him. But, Inaros is a power-crazed dictator who believes his plan is best for his people and that he can do no wrong. After his Nemesis Games, James S.A. Corey’s Babylon’s Ashes (The Expanse, 6) is released. After being attacked by asteroids by the “Free Navy,” Earth is in terrible shape. The remaining billions are refugees surviving in ash and dirt that is descending from the sky.

Now that he knows she is still alive, Filip, Naomi’s son, accuses Holden of being the reason she abandoned him and his father, even though Holden had nothing to do with it. As Captain Michio Pa believes that perhaps there is something wrong with following Marco, Medina Station has been transformed into a type of Belter homeland. With Bobbie now on board, the Rocinante and her crew are en route to a spacecraft that may be responsible for throwing pebbles at Earth. And Marco’s true colours are emerging—he claims to be working for the Belters’ benefit, but he’s only too happy to leave them behind when it serves his objectives.
