Big Little Lies is a fantastic look at schoolyard scandal, mothers and daughters, second wives and ex-husbands, as well as the little lies that can be deadly. When it comes to fighting for justice, Madeline, a 40-year-old woman in her second marriage, is frank and giving. She also has to deal with her teenage daughter, who looks up to her new stepmother.
Jane, a woman in her early 20s and the sole parent of a 5-year-old son who is accused of bullying and consequently treated unfairly at school, is hiding a significant secret. Celeste is a stunningly gorgeous woman who is married to a rich, handsome man. Her marriage is far from perfect, despite the fact that everyone around her thinks it is.

It’s about a tragedy that will occur soon at a school function called Trivia Night. After their titles inform us of how long it takes for this event to occur, the chapters are labelled as a countdown to it. Every chapter discloses something significant that feeds the subplots and whets our need for more along with this main line leading up to the climax. All of this piqued my interest and kept me reading to find out what would happen and who would be hit by the enigmatic blow.
All of the themes discussed in the plot—friendship, betrayal, loyalty, marriage, second marriage, parenthood, self-esteem, abuse in domestic violence, and bullying—are expertly woven into the lives of the characters. The three women’s individual voices serve as the primary narrative devices, and the writing is so masterfully done that everything flows together seamlessly right from the start. Each of their pasts, present, facts, and feelings are combined into a singular tale that flows beautifully. By using clever and sympathetic language to reveal what lies beneath each character’s outward appearance or the lie they tell themselves to survive, the author is able to be both gentle and direct while yet providing us with some very amazing insights into human nature.
