Selena Murphy is taking the train home when she strikes up a conversation with a stunning stranger seated across from her. After introducing herself as Martha, the woman quickly admits that she has been having an affair with her boss. Selena, in turn, admits that she believes her husband is having an extramarital affair with the nanny. The two women part ways when the train pulls into Selena’s station, probably never to cross paths again.

The woman sitting next to Selena on the way home starts up a discussion and admits to having slept with her employer. Selena then expresses her suspicions that her husband is cheating on her. The two split ways, and shortly after, the nanny vanishes, starting a series of events that completely change Selena’s life.

Confessions on the 7:45 get off to a rattling start when two ladies meet on the 7:45 train, seemingly by accident, before it breaks down and thuds to a stop in blinding, anticipatory darkness. The urge to cathartically unveil the ruin that has become their life permeates the electric space between them. Both women have spent much too much time pretending to have a certain kind of attractiveness that doesn’t actually belong to them or align with what they are actually going through in their personal life. They have been subjected to so many lies and half-truths that they are worn out, tired, and completely worn down.
And each home is a strange, alluring beauty tinged with apprehension about what their relationship would be like in the future and at this undeniably intimate moment that exists between them.
This narrative relies on the enthralling complexity and stealthiness of layers, outward manifestations, and both genuine and fake identities. When you believe you have someone under control, they evade your grasp with agility. Each scenario in the book also has a captivating appeal that begs you to keep reading. I could feel it as strongly, unabashedly, and completely as if I were seeing contentious work that raises more questions than it answers.
