Delilah Green Doesn’t Care by Ashley Herring Blake
Delilah Green vowed she would never return to Bright Falls since there was nothing there but memories of a lonely childhood where she was treated like nothing more than a burden by her distant and chilly stepfamily. Her bed is never empty, and she lives in New York with her photography business finally taking off. She is perfectly content with the fact that each night a different woman is involved.

Delilah finds herself back in the abandoned village she once called home when Astrid, her estranged stepsister, coerces her into taking wedding photos in exchange for a five-figure cash and a guilt trip. She intends to quickly enter and go, but when she encounters Claire Sutherland, one of Astrid’s pretentious friends, she changes her mind.
Claire Sutherland relies on life without shocks because she has raised her daughter, who is eleven, largely on her own, while still managing her bookstore, coping with her unreliable ex, and other obligations. And Delilah Green is a surprise that is initially unwelcome. Even though they have known each other for years, they don’t really know one another, so when Delilah discovers exactly which buttons to push, Claire feels uneasy. Claire isn’t sure whether she has the stamina to withstand Delilah’s allure when they are compelled to be together amid the flurry of wedding preparations, which also includes a scheme to save Astrid from her awful fiancé. What’s worse is that she’s beginning to feel like she doesn’t want to…
Each character’s emotional drive is very realistic and simple to understand and feel. And the author maintains the suspense rolling along at the perfect cadence against a great backdrop. Because you are so invested in the plot and the characters, I may have shed a few tears and yelled at a couple of them, but in a good way. My time was well spent.
