Dracula by Bram Stoker

Dracula has a hunger for blood, indulges in nighttime vice, and induces hypnotic trances.

In order to meet the Transylvanian nobleman, Count Dracula, Jonathan Harker is traveling to Castle Dracula. On the eve of St. George’s Day, when the clock strikes midnight, all the evil things on the earth will come fully into power, so the villagers implore him not to go there. But because there is the business to be done, Jonathan travels to the Castle, where his nightmare officially starts. Meena, his loving wife, and other lost souls are now under the Count’s terrible sway. There must be an end to Dracula.

The vampire industry is expanding. Currently, Dracula is greater than Jesus. Christmas has been surpassed by Halloween. All of this originated in the mind of an Irishman named Bram Stoker, who never visited Transylvania but instead studied maps and tales at desk 07 in the British Museum library, near to desks 06 and 05 where Lenin penned What Has to Be Done and Karl Marx wrote Das Kapital. The immortal Dracula of Bram Stoker’s novella experiences the fatal illness of love. He drank deeply from the blood of a long past in order to enter our technologically empirical world fully alive. He’s become so fashionable that his servants struggle to keep out the throngs of people who are pleading to have their blood drawn so they can stay up all night.

It’s a lengthy read, but well worth it. It is written in an epistolary format as a collection of diaries from every member of the Dracula-affected team. This contributes to the story being even more realistic and credible. We all have an idea of what Dracula looks like based on the popular culture and films that have been adapted from the book, but the real Dracula can only be understood by reading the original work. The discoveries all feel like some sort of trip that makes you want to keep reading to learn what they all imply.
