Encore in Death by J.D. Robb
Eliza Lane and Brant Fitzhugh, a famous couple who had dominated both Broadway and Hollywood, gave a spectacular celebration that was attended by A-listers. Eve Dallas has now arrived, but she is not a visitor. After making a toast, Fitzhugh collapsed to the ground and passed away. Cyanide-related bodily symptoms were there, and the police had already entered the celebration.
He didn’t seem like the kind of celebrity who was prone to enmity. Even his former wife was in love with him. It’s also likely that Eliza was the intended recipient of the champagne cocktail that killed him, with a recently fired assistant, a vengeful rival, and an ardent fan in the mix. Eve has her work cut out for her figuring out who committed murder in the middle of the crowd and what their reason was—with so many guests, staff members, and servers. She loathes the media circus surrounding a case like this since she herself does not enjoy being in the spotlight. She only wants to ascertain who is genuinely innocent and who is merely acting that way.

Encore in Death is a skillfully written futuristic police procedural featuring Lieutenant Eve Dallas with the NYC police department and set in New York City in the year 2061. J. D. Robb (a pen name for Nora Roberts) blends murder, suspense, and drama.
The evening before Brant Fitzhugh is supposed to depart for New Zealand, celebrity couple Eliza Lane and Brant Fitzhugh throw a party. While Eliza is preparing for the part of a lifetime on Broadway, he is producing and starring in a film that is being shot there. After Brant toasts Eliza collapses to the ground and dies, Eve Dallas shows up. He was supposed to drink something for Eliza, but it ended up killing him. Who was the target among them? It won’t be simple to catch the murderer with over 200 guests, workers, and servers.
It’s always fun to hang out with Eve, Delia (Eve’s partner), Roarke (Eve’s spouse), and Eve’s coworkers. Three-dimensional and intriguing major characters. Every book in this series shows Eve’s drive to serve and protect, but it is best to read all in order to fully grasp the motivation for this. As always, Eve and Roarke’s exchanges are delightful and highlight a distinct aspect of Eve’s character. Readers get a glimpse into some of the recurrent police characters’ personal lives as they play important roles in this novel. I also liked how this storyline allowed Delia to assume more responsibilities.
The prose is interesting and well-written. The plot is heartbreaking and thought-provoking. Although there is little action in this book, it is primarily a police procedural. Robb typically succeeds in incorporating humour into her books, adding some much-needed lightness to counteract some of the darker and more sombre elements of the narrative. Eve’s personality is brought out by the humour. She becomes more likeable due to anything from words she doesn’t comprehend to her responses to loud attire worn by her coworkers and a candy thief. The series features the author’s strong characters, fantastic stories, lovely relationships, and terrific pacing. Care for others, companionship, relationships, ego, glamour, careers, leadership, and trust are themes that run throughout the book.
