Despite having some cracks, Brick Callan’s faithful heart beats beneath his mile-wide chest. In order to escape this horror, the free-spirited artist simply needs to disappear for a few weeks. She most certainly won’t be staying. Not when the person who tore her teenage heart to shreds continues to appear at her parents’ dinner table. Remi doesn’t require a brooding, beard-sporting Brick to come to her aid once more. Not when it may endanger both of them and cost them far more than just their hearts.

Brick was your stereotypical grumpy guy, but he wasn’t nasty; instead, he was considerate of other people and constantly offered his assistance when needed. The only issue was that, when it came to Remi, Brick couldn’t help but feel as though his entire world had been turned upside down and that he needed to get away from her. Regarding Remi, Brick had a lot going for him. He would tell Remi not to do various things in typical grumpy male fashion, and she would either reply by being stubborn or try to ruffle his feathers in an effort to get a reaction out of him.
Brick and Remi had several insightful discussions while they were together, but you could feel the obvious tension between them (their attraction!) Remi was dealing with something from the start of the story, more specifically, she was attempting to flee from someone. There was, in a sense, a sense of mystery, a little of that “edge of your seat” sensation as we tried to figure out what Remi was hiding and, more importantly, what happened. Even though Remi was back home on the island, things weren’t quite safe for her yet, thus the way she eventually revealed what had occurred to her was unexpected.
Every girl’s wish comes true with brick. Any woman that claims otherwise is lying, LOL. He is the ideal spouse in every way. He is brooding, enigmatic, and dark… And when it’s combined with a strong sense of loyalty, a clear understanding of right from wrong, and a commitment to always putting your loved ones first, there truly isn’t a greater combination.
Remi, the subject of his 14-year fixation, is now present. She definitely has the character of a wild youngster. She, like Brick, will, nevertheless, go above and beyond for the ones she loves, and I believe it is part of what makes her so exceptional. They grew up as friends but hesitated to fully embrace the possibility of being more until Remi asks for assistance. When someone he cares about needs aid, Brick is the kind of guy who can’t help himself, and he will go above and beyond to assist Remi. I don’t want to give anything away, but the story’s gripping premise draws you in along with the slowly developing, tense romance.
