Go as a River by Shelley Read
Being the lone female surviving in a family of disturbed men, Victoria Nash, 17, manages the household on her family’s peach farm in the small ranch town of Iola, Colorado. Young Wilson Moon, who has been exiled from his native continent and is determined to live his own way, is a drifter with a shadowy past.
On a street corner, Victoria meets Wil by accident. Their unexpected encounter drastically changes both of their young lives and inadvertently sparks as much desire as danger. Victoria flees the only life she has ever known when tragedy strikes. She runs away and hides in the mountains nearby, where she tries to survive in the wild without knowing what the future holds.

When the Gunnison River threatens to flood her homeland, including its ranches, farms, and the cherished peach orchard that has been in her family for generations, she finds purpose and courage in the harsh but beautiful landscape to move forward and rebuild everything she has lost.
Flowing as a River is a story of passionately held to love in the face of sorrow and loss, but also of finding strength, perseverance, companionship, and, ultimately, home—where least anticipated. It was inspired by actual events surrounding the collapse of the village of Iola in the 1960s.
The meaning of living your life as if it were a river—gathering and flowing, finding a path forward even when a river is dammed—is explored in this breathtaking premiere.
1948 finds Victoria Nash at the age of 17. Between the devastation of World War Two and the catastrophic vehicle accident that claimed the lives of three of the people she loved the most, she has already led a tragic life. On the peach farm owned by her family in Colorado, Victoria is the only woman remaining. When she meets Wil, a boy or man that others consider an outcast and despise because of the colour of his skin, she has a lot of responsibility on her shoulders. Victoria follows her heart, has her own ideas, and takes control of her own life.
After her mother’s tragic passing five years ago, Victoria Nash, 17, has been left in charge of managing the home on her family’s peach ranch. She is the only female still alive in her family, thus this duty is without a doubt expected.
Victoria is too busy to daydream about living somewhere other than the family ranch. This changes when Wilson Moon, a stranger who is travelling through town, encounters her. She finds him attractive because of his generosity and distinctive appearance, and she thinks they were meant to be. Their relationship is dangerous, but Wilson’s teachings about the river’s movement will help Victoria get through her challenges, cope with her losses, and find her place in the world.
