Green Darkness by Anya Seton
This amazing tale of unending love weaves a web of good and evil from 16th-century England to the current day using mysticism, suspense, mystery, and romance. The marriage of Richard Marsdon to Celia, a young American woman, and her relocation to his estate in England appear to be going smoothly. However, Richard has now turned distant, and Celia is now plagued by an unsettling dread. A knowledgeable doctor recognizes that the only way to help Celia recover from her disease is to have her relive her past when she has a breakdown and is on the verge of death. Celia goes back in time 400 years to her previous existence as a stunning but tragic servant. Through her eyes, we witness a religiously divided England during the Tudor era and are exposed to all the splendour, passion, and cruelty of the time. In this flamboyant classic story, like in previous historical romance books by this author, the past comes to life.

It’s shrouded in a lot of mystery. In the 1960s, a gathering of people takes place in Kent during a house party. It comes out that they are all reincarnations of individuals who lived during the Tudor era, under Edward VI’s rule. Everything is connected to the skeleton that is supposed to have been discovered walled up at Ightham Mote in Kent during the Victorian era. With all the conflicts and tensions from their prior lives being acted out in the present, you have to figure out who was who in a previous life. It’s a fantastic, amazing novel.
