The story is very acceptable and readable, but the show stealer is the artwork. There are quite a few reoccurring tropes, indeed. Many characters are seen wearing glasses and wind up shrouded in shadow, reflecting only one lens for a dramatic, dynamic contrast slightly more frequently than appears logical. But, it does appear cool.
Here, the stances are all acted up and dramatic. Darkness and shadowy swaths surround gothic artwork. When necessary, hyper-detailed or occasionally cartoony sequences replace the bold line work.
