You’ll start to doubt everything you believed you knew about fate after reading this heartbreaking narrative about love, tragedy, and life.

For every element of her life, Dannie Kohen has set down guidelines and plans. She attends an interview for the dream job she’s sure she’ll land. She also looks forward to the marriage proposal that will be made that evening during the celebration supper. Her five-year plan is in line with everything here. After supper, they return to their shared flat, where she passes out on the couch.

She literally awakens in a different time and place. Five years later, she is with a different man in a different apartment with a different ring on her finger. She awakens from sleep and understands that only an hour has actually passed. What does this signify, though? Why does life seem to deviate from her plan so drastically?

In an effort to make sense of things, she seeks therapy but keeps her dream a secret from everyone in her life, not even her best friend Bella. She is engrossed in her work but can’t seem to shake the dream she had despite life’s distractions. It felt like a premonition yet might have been a dream. When Dannie is asked to meet her best friend Bella’s new beau and she turns to face him, her life spins on its axis. What exactly does it mean?

This is a tale of love and friendship between Danielle “Dannie” and Bella, two best friends who are devoted to one another and always have each other’s backs. Up until that point, everything was fine. So powerful. In terms of her career, her friends, her fiance, and her personal life, lawyer Dannie has always understood what she wants and how to get it. Bella is the artist and appears feckless; she falls in love quickly and frequently and jumps from one project to another without finishing any of them, although the two have been best friends since they were seven years old.

Prior to having a dream that feels more like a vision that transports her five years into the future with a different partner and apartment on December 15, 2025, Dannie has her life planned out. Dannie returns on December 15, 2020, after waking from a dream that doesn’t seem to be a dream, but she chooses not to tell Bella or anyone else about it for fear of being viewed as crazy. Of course, she meets a man from the future, and without giving anything away, everything is flipped upside down. The first revelation of Dannie and her guy’s condition in the dream and the conclusion of the novel made me somewhat joyful, but the conclusion was just anti-climactic and kind of, “huh.”
