- Michael Crichton, Jurassic Park
He’s a joke, John Hammond. He is an extremely wealthy man who exists for two reasons: first, to finance and oversee the construction of the park, and second, to get irritated when people inform him that the park won’t be successful. He is so dim-witted that whenever Ian Malcolm explains something to him, his constant response is to inquire of the other attendees as to what Malcolm is referring to. Nothing about him is genuine; even the cardboard doesn’t ring real. Ian Malcolm, or Information Dump Malcolm as I like to refer to him, is there to elucidate. He always lectures; it’s all he ever does. He doesn’t interact with anyone; he doesn’t have any conversations. He resembles an AI.
Two of the most completely useless, stupid characters ever created. I was wishing the T-Rex would devour Lex like an hors d’oeuvre since she is so obnoxious. When everyone is warning her to be quiet since the dinosaurs are going to eat them, she never stops talking, never follows instructions, shouts, whines, and creates unending noise. She is an annoying know-it-all who has little interest in learning anything and knows almost nothing about anything. She only wants to play “pickle” and complains that nothing is pleasant and that she is hungry. She is only tolerable when she is unconscious. Although Tim is essentially useless, at least he is a step up over his sister.
InGen, a biotechnology business, was founded by eccentric billionaire John Hammond. A cutting-edge genetics facility and resort on a privately owned island off Costa Rica, with genetically modified dinosaurs as the major draws, is the subject of his top-secret project. Hammond’s investors, however, want the project to be looked into for safety grounds after people start to complain about bizarre animal attacks. To evaluate the park’s value and security measures are the palaeontologist Dr. Alan Grant, the paleobotanist Ellie Sattler, the mathematician Ian Malcolm, and the attorney Donald Gennaro. Meet Alexis and Tim, the grandkids of John Hammond who are only visiting for the trip. Unfortunately, they’re all showing up just in time to see what happens when a vengeful worker attacks a dinosaur exhibit. There is mayhem.
