She goes out to face Marek in an epic fight that leads to the climax with the aid of Talan, the demon master of NOLA, numerous witches she’s made friends with, several ghosts, and fellow manslaga.
In New Orleans, Cora’s old master discovers her and uses some form of magic to enlighten her before vanishing. Cora, Fiona, Talan, and the rest of her pals set out to discover Cora’s new abilities first, then how to approach Karen and recover what is rightfully hers. Even though conditions are shaky, Cora and Talan collaborate and gain a few allies along the road. Can Cora get rid of Marks before he kills people in her cherished new hometown and others?
While they will cooperate to stop her old master from attacking the city, Cora is still determined to avoid Talan. They head over to someone Cora knows to find the answers with the help of her friends. They must stop him; Cora wasn’t ready to hear what she was told. Cora continues to fight the feelings she has for Talan, but she can only do so for so long. The menace that lingered over Cora made her feel helpless in her attempts to defend people who needed her. Talan’s urge to defend her and her continual rejection of his approaches were not doing her any favours.
