Many of the notable manga creators that Fred Schodt writes about, he actually knows or knew. The fact that his Dreamland Japan explores the less well-known but no less fascinating aspects of manga and reaches the same lofty degree of success is even more amazing. To get started researching the manga studies subject that Fred Schodt founded (his other books are fantastic too! ), anyone with an interest in manga should read both of these publications. Despite being scholarly and having the highest level of respectability, one of the many amazing things about his writing is how amusing it is. Fred’s willingness to use his investigations to draw attention to more important concerns is one of the book’s many positive aspects.
Although it isn’t the most latest book on the topic, this one has a fantastic manga history. It lists the most significant subgenres, authors, and characters in manga. Fred Schodt is extremely knowledgeable in his field. He begins with a priest’s eleventh-century scroll, in which odd, diminutive creatures are depicted; this is unquestionably the origin of manga and anime.
