Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris
I also discovered that every comedian has a point of view as a result of reading this book and taking her class. Every comedian, according to her, either says, “It is hard to…,” or “I adore being…”, and you have to fill in the spaces. And because you have a pattern to follow after that breakdown, writing is much easier. So it’s not a bad place to start if you want some advice for this kind of thing.

He writes pretty humorous things. You will be always inspired by writers who can make you laugh simply by reading their work—things that make you laugh just by reading them. Because when you perform, you can add humour to things by how you present them, but writing humour is a talent, and Sedaris possesses it. It’s surprising how humorous he manages to make these autobiographical short stories. Although he doesn’t perform stand-up comedy or anything similar, his stories are funny.
His observations, cultural allusions, and political correctness made my day more enjoyable. I can’t image him attempting to persuade relatives to divulge some of the more ludicrous tales about them. His sister Amy and he have collaborated on a number of projects. She proved to be clever when, in one of his tales, she impersonated a friend of the family and approached their father, making Sedaris one of the masters of inflicting parental pain.
Overall, the author’s memories of his youth were extremely amusing, but I bought the book for his cross-cultural wit and tales of how language—or a lack of understanding it—can have serious and very funny repercussions.
