Start with a pair of identical twin sisters, one of whom was sentenced to a year in her Manhattan apartment with an ankle monitor following an unjust indecent exposure accusation. and a charming neighbour who is also imprisoned. Elinor Lipman’s most recent has a few dodgy visa-seeking titled immigrants and a cruel nanny, which gives it its sparklingly funny features. There is wit, mayhem, and love.
Ms Demeanor is such a fun and beautiful story! As Lipman continues to amuse you with belly-laugh moments, the entire ensemble of characters will draw you into their humorous universe from the very beginning. My favourite parts included, of course, all the cooking and Jane’s bold attempts to try new things with her vivacious sister. So, if you want a story that moves quickly and is amusing and light, pick up a copy and enjoy it.
