A military officer in the British army during the Napoleonic wars is the subject of a very creative and well-written narrative. A one-night stand-alone leads to a terrifying chase by a damaged, vindictive, and small-minded corporal who is trying to carry out a politically motivated order, even if it means going to hell. The officer flees, abandons his home, endures hardships, and astonishingly overcomes all of these challenges to discover love and freedom. It is a book about fates, destinies, transformation, and tenacity in seeking out fresh chances. Oftentimes, the descriptions are excellent.
