The first factor was the text itself, to put it simply. Has this author sucked you into their universe in just a few pages? The style of Elizabeth Strout is so serene and innocently alluring. You are thrust into a conversation with a character as a result of the author’s seeming simplicity of language and conversational address to the reader. We were quite taken aback by how intricately the reader learns just how little Lucy understands about herself. observing someone in their late middle years as they reconsider their perceptions of who they have been, who they are, and what they might become.
Lucy Barton, the main character from the books My Name is Lucy Barton and Anything is Possible, and her first husband William are the subjects of the character study Oh William! This book is a free-flowing collection of Lucy’s rambling thoughts, recollections, and experiences following the passing of her second husband, David.
Even though I occasionally found the repetition of some sentences to be grating, Ms Strout writes eloquently in Lucy’s voice and articulates Lucy’s views. I’m aware that people frequently use the same phrases, and Lucy is no exception.

This story is unmistakably told by Lucy, allowing us to enter the world of her first husband, William. William must deal with his newest wife leaving him, which is nothing new to him, as Lucy gets over the loss of David, her previous spouse, which is still fresh in Lucy’s mind. As usual, Lucy is gullible, oblivious, and unsophisticated, and she helps William deal with his issues because they have always maintained a loose friendship.
