The first-person narrator of this short story about Ace’s beginnings is a journalist/author who just so happens to be stranded on a barren island with Ace, the son of a famous pirate who also happens to have the ability to control flames. Comparatively less gregarious and self-assured than Ace, the journalist is humbled by his enthusiasm and in awe of it. He makes the commitment to live at Ace’s side as a type of low- or no-powered Watson to Ace’s Sherlock after they are later saved by a spacecraft. From there, Ace assembles a crew of sailors to fight in their world’s equivalent of the Navy, both at sea and on land while conducting reconnaissance in search of amusement at a theme park.
It provides a thorough understanding of Ace’s voyage from the moment he sets sail to the moment he boards Whitebeard’s ship, as well as the creation of the Spare Pirates, his run-in with Shanks, and his promotion to the rank of Super Rookie!
