Kelsey is thrilled to have her best friend by her side when her best friend Mirren relocates from Scotland. As the nights grow chilly, Mirren pours herself into courting the many bachelors of Stratford, until she finds herself becoming more attracted to journalist Adrian. While working for the local newspaper, Mirren unearths a long-buried secret, and it appears that her huge tip could turn Kelsey’s — and Jonathan’s — lives upside down.
Will she put her job ahead of the happiness of her friends?
However, Jonathan’s relationship with Kelsey is put in jeopardy when he returns from the US and learns the secrets Mirren has unearthed about his family. Can they find love again before the winter of their discontent sets in?
One Winter’s Night may undoubtedly be read and enjoyed independently, especially because the author provides a brief summary of the preceding work at the beginning.
In the charming town of Stratford-upon-Avon, where Kelsey Anderson spent the summer working as a tour guide, she met her boyfriend. American theatrical performer Jonathan Hathaway was only in Stratford for the summer. Until Jonathan returned for the Christmas holidays, Kelsey was left in Stratford alone with a long-distance relationship while he was touring in America. They had to make do with facetime calls.
In order to give Kelsey an opportunity to launch her eagerly anticipated photography business, Norma, Kelsey’s former boss at the tour guide company, had agreed to let her have the old tour guide facilities at a very discounted rent.
Mirren, Kelsey’s best friend, flees to Stratford to be with her as she mulls her options and attempts to get her life back on track after quitting her work due to harassment and abuse. She meets a local reporter in the process and learns of a covert controversy that, if made public, might potentially pose problems for Jonathan and his family as well as his relationship with Kelsey.
Particularly the interesting and eccentric former actress Blythe, the characters are well-drawn and endearing. The plot is enhanced by a secondary cast of interesting individuals. In a beautiful environment, each character is brought to life, showing how they develop while highlighting love, friendship, hope, and family through tragedies, disappointments, and uncertainties—and perhaps even, finally, happiness.
