This book was fantastic! Louise Bagshawe is one of my favourite authors, and I particularly liked the way she wrote and organized this book. You can sense the characters’ pain in some passages, and you then think, “YAY, they got theirs back!” I thought the book was fantastic overall and couldn’t recommend it more. I fell in love with every character!
When Melissa Elmet and William Hyde were teenagers, they fell deeply in love and eventually got married in secret. The marriage is ultimately declared null and void due to Melissa’s family’s interference, and the couple is never seen again. Will has become a billionaire, while Melissa is now a professor. Their worlds are extremely dissimilar, but Will, an ex-MI6 agent, finds a connection between recent crimes and worries Melissa will be the next victim, bringing their worlds back together. The two are forced to flee while Lola, a stunning female assassin, pursues them around the globe.
The chase is on as Melissa and Will attempt to outsmart assassin Lola. The book is extremely fast-paced and takes place in many different locations throughout the world as the characters struggle to find or outsmart one another. The chase between Melissa, Will, and Lola, which lasts for the majority of the book—pretty much from page one to page eleven—is what drives the plot. The fact that Will was a former MI6 agent adds another layer of intrigue to the story because it implies he is aware of Lola’s plans and can try to trick her in that way. Will and Lola are both quite intelligent, which makes for engrossing reading…
