Powerless by Lauren Roberts
She is the one thing he has been searching for his entire life. He is exactly what she has been pretending to be her entire life.
Only the exceptional, the powerful, and the Elites have a place in the kingdom of Ilya. Although not everyone was fortunate enough to survive the disease and receive the benefit, the Plague generously bestowed the abilities these Elites have had for decades. Those who are born Ordinary are just Ordinary. In addition, lacking an ability suddenly became a crime when the king ordered that all Ordinaries be exiled in order to protect his Elite society, making Paedyn Gray a felon by fate and a thief by need.

As an Ordinary, it’s not easy to survive in the slums, and Paedyn is more aware of this than others. Paedyn poses as a psychic in the busy city, blending in among the Elites as best she can to stay alive and out of trouble due to her father’s training to be highly vigilant since she was a little girl. Not as easy as it seems. Paeydn finds herself in the Purging Trials after unknowingly saving one of Ilya’s princes. The rigorous competition exists to display the abilities of the Elites, which are precisely what Paedyn lacks. If the Trials and the opponents within them don’t end her life, the prince she is in love with will undoubtedly do so if he finds out that she is entirely ordinary. The plot of this novel was well-intentioned and well-written. It was horribly symmetrical and brilliantly sarcastic.
