Four brothers fight to keep the doors of their beloved Harlem knitting store open after their foster mother who had become their adopted mother passes away unexpectedly.
Jesse Strong has a reputation for shattering people’s hearts as well as being devoted to his adopted mother, Mama Joy. He and his siblings have varied ideas for what to do with Strong Knits, their local knitting shop, after Mama Joy passes away unexpectedly. Jesse wants to maintain business as usual. His brothers want to shutter the business and tie up any loose ends.
Kerry Fuller, a part-time shop employee, has kept her crush on Jesse a secret. She offers to assist after overhearing his fervent pleading with his siblings to keep the knitting shop open. Kerry understands the “nitty-gritty” of the industry better than Jesse, and the two of them work to reimagine Strong Knits for a modern audience.
But as they spend more time together, their chemistry grows stronger. Kerry doesn’t think their relationship will endure longer than she can knit one stitch and purl two because she is aware of Jesse’s past. Jesse, though, is adamant about showing her that he can be her man for all time. Because knitters are real men.
This is a touching, honest tale of grief and discovering self-love. Although Jesse and Kerry get along well, it’s challenging for them to be open and vulnerable with one another because of the many unresolved issues from their past. It’s beautiful to watch these two develop as a couple and become more open to finding true love and believe they deserve it.
