This book’s premise—Kirsten and Mark have been together for well over 20 years—seemed reasonable. Kirsten is yearning for a physical rekindling with him despite her love for him and wants to stay with him. Age, children, work, and family commitments, have all seemingly contributed to that side of their relationship deteriorating. She then discovers the solution after running into an old school buddy by chance: she may join a group that solely meets for “no-strings” sex. It is said that her marriage can be saved in this manner. The only issue is that the man she chooses to satisfy this urge with wants more than she does.

There was a lot of promise in this book. Sadly, it’s not as exciting as Kirsten’s attempts to seduce her husband once more; rather, it’s more of a half-hearted fumble. Despite the topic matter, this novel doesn’t include a lot of sexual content (so if you come to it for that, you will be disappointed). This means that rather than there being a build-up of suspense as Zac’s true colours finally emerge, the affair moves from being the odd meeting to the man turning all wacky, seemingly in the space of a few minutes. I must admit, Kirsten really got on my nerves.

She is a smart woman who stands to lose a lot in both her personal and professional lives, but she disobeys every piece of advice provided to her right away. The reasons she would breach these norms and let her guard down also don’t make any sense because we don’t get to see the affair actually take off into something. This made the book, in my opinion, only ever be OK at most because there was insufficient suspense building. Things were fixed just far too soon, and the finale came across as a little bit too twee.
