For a change, these books are primarily about boys. Jacob Reckless, the elder brother, enters the Mirrorworld by way of a mirror. In the Mirrorworld, fantastical creatures come to life and the impossibly is accomplished. His younger brother follows him through the portal, which causes problems when they cross paths. The story told in the book is fascinating and it is extremely nicely written. It can be really difficult to put the book down once you’ve begun reading it.
The Petrified Flesh by Funke creates a vivid and fascinating world that is far darker than the fairy tales I was up on. I adored this viewpoint, but regrettably, I was unable to experience how the world actually operated. With no apparent method and no explanation of how magic worked, magic and magical objects simply handled issues as they arose. I adore the idea of magic, but I favour magic that has a little more logic. If not, it can fix any problem without needing an explanation. Despite this, I thought the tale was incredibly good, and the characters had a lot of depth.
