Red Storm Risin by Tom Clancy
A chillingly realistic portrayal of modern combat, Tom Clancy’s second best-selling thriller, has been reissued with a new cover. The largest petrochemical factory in the Soviet Union was destroyed by three Muslim terrorists who believed they were fighting for freedom. Unknowingly, they had fired the opening salvo in World War III. The only solution the Kremlin hawks can see to their dire oil shortage is to seize supply in the Persian Gulf. They create Red Storm, a brilliant master plan of diplomatic deception and ferocious rearmament, in order to neutralize NATO’s forces and destroy their response, which is the first step necessary for accomplishing that. The battle lines have been set, and Armageddon is approaching!

A game-changer, that book. I was around 12 when it was released. I enjoyed how the narrative was delivered from so many different perspectives, making you feel as though you were there yourself. It has excellent technical data. Although it wasn’t literature, it was a fantastic story that inspired me and demonstrated how you could make describing actual military technology a key element of the narrative. Red Storm Rising was written at the pinnacle of Tom Clancy’s craft because he was the master. Reading became a habit after a while.
What might a nuclear-era World War II have looked like in Europe? The USSR MUST occupy land in order to live, according to Tom Clancy’s (RIP) plausible scenario. This book contains a wealth of information about how military technologies like electronic warfare, sonar, radars, and combat fighting operate. But you’re always viewing the war scenes from the perspective of the senior officers.
