Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane
It is the year 1954. In order to look into the disappearance of a patient, U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels and his brand-new sidekick Chuck Aule travelled to Shutter Island, the location of Ashecliffe Hospital for the Criminally Insane. Although she was held in a locked cell and under observation, by the multiple murderers Rachel Solando is still on the loose someplace on this desolate island. A bizarre case assumes even deeper, more sinister tones as a deadly cyclone bears mercilessly down on them. There are signs of radical experimentation, horrible procedures, and deadly counterattacks carried out in the service of a clandestine shadow war. Nothing at Ashecliffe Hospital is even close to being what it seems, therefore nobody will be able to leave Shutter Island unhurt.

One of the best-plotted books I’ve read in a while was “Shutter Island.” I was astonished by the complexity and originality. Teddy, a US Federal Marshal assigned to Shutter Island, is looking into Rachel Solando’s enigmatic disappearance. While Teddy and his partner Chuck are perplexed by this woman’s mysterious disappearance—she has the ability to vanish through walls—they run across a more intriguing case. Is this hospital what they claim it to be? Why does everyone use the exact same wording when responding to inquiries, and why on earth is an electric fence erected around a sewage treatment facility? Teddy and Chuck are trapped in the deepest water possible while searching for answers; are they also mad, or is it just them?
A pretty straightforward book that tells a straightforward tale in virtually a straight line. Unexceptionally poor writing. Despite several times wanting to stop reading, I persevered. After reaching the conclusion, I regret not acting on my gut feeling. There are countless books, and life is too short to put up with subpar literature.
The twist was similar to the scene in the movie where the young child says, “I see dead people,” and you quickly realize that the Bruce Willis character is no longer alive. After finding the clue in the book, I experienced a sense of impending doom.
