Supper Club, Lara Williams’ first book, is an extremely strange book. Women established a club where they can sate their hunger. I couldn’t decide whether to laugh or cry as I pondered how genuine the hungers are and how needs are satisfied. Although I generally chuckled, I was aware that I was reading about severe despair and how tough it may be to connect with others in today’s culture. Every one of us interacts with the world in a different way. In this book, the protagonist Roberta is authentically herself, and as we grow to know her, we start to comprehend her engagement—no matter how dissimilar it is from our own. Williams writes excellent prose.
