The Accidental Beauty Queen by Teri Wilson

Teri Wilson, a renowned novelist, demonstrates in this endearing romantic comedy that sometimes being pushed outside of your comfort zone pays off and is ideal for fans of Meg Cabot and Sophie Kinsella.

Charlotte Gorman is pleased to live vicariously through the novels she reads because she enjoys her job as an elementary school librarian. which is completely different from the way her identical twin sister is. Since she was old enough to pronounce the words “global peace,” Ginny, an Instagram-famous beauty pageant competitor, has been after a crown. She won’t stop until she is crowned Miss American Treasure. And this time, Ginny is reluctant to go it alone.

The winning strategy swiftly fails when Ginny suffers a horrific, face-altering allergic reaction the night before the pageant, and Charlotte finds herself in a switcheroo the twins haven’t successfully pulled off in decades. She brings Charlotte to the pageant as a good luck charm.

Charlotte is horribly unprepared for the glitzy world of push-up bras, fake eyelashes, and hair extensions, and she cringes with every shaky step she takes in her incredibly high stilettos. Charlotte realizes she has a completely new reason for wanting to win as she learns that her fellow competitors are motivated by things other than just a glittering crown.

Women’s fiction with romantic and comedic overtones can be found in The Accidental Beauty Queen. I chose it because it appears that many publishers are choosing to acquire romance books in this manner as well. Since purchasing is a significant portion of my job as a librarian, I am somewhat aware of what goes on behind the scenes. You should keep an eye on the trends when books are being offered to you and you start to hear new buzzwords for the benefit of your audience.

Harlequin has published works by Teri Wilson. A handful of her books have also been turned into Hallmark movies. She is incredibly well-liked by my own readers, which is one of the reasons I chose her as one of my top five.

Ginny is competing for Miss American Treasure in this novel. There is pressure from the start because her mother previously won this pageant. For good luck, Ginny sends Charlotte, the school librarian’s twin sister, along. Because it’s a vacation and she loves Harry Potter (which is set in a somewhat romanticized Orlando), Charlotte agrees to go.

But nearly immediately after they arrive, Ginny experiences an allergic response, and the situation is not pleasant. Her face is a complete disaster in terms of pageants, and the doctor says, “Guess what? You will be absent for a few days. She responds, “a few days!” This is my last opportunity. How am I going to proceed? She begs her sister Charlotte to act as her while she heals. Charlotte must therefore undergo this transformation.
