The Bullet That Missed by Richard Osman

It’s a typical Thursday, and everything ought to be getting back to normal by now. Yet when it comes to the Thursday Murder Club, disaster is never far away. They are drawn to a local news legend and a murder with no corpse and no witnesses after following a ten-year-old cold case, one of their favourites. Then Elizabeth is visited by a new adversary. Her objective? Kill or perish. The previously chilly case has now turned hot.

Joyce, Ron, and Ibrahim look for clues with assistance from both old and new acquaintances while Elizabeth struggles with her conscience (and a pistol). But will the group unravel the riddle in time to save Elizabeth from the killer before they commit another murder?

The characters all work well together to produce a captivating narrative. It’s humorous, interesting, and at times extremely depressing as you see people’s health deteriorate and some come to terms with the fact that they won’t live forever. Living for today is important because you could not be around tomorrow, so take action now before it’s too late, according to some wise advice from Joyce.

Alan is a dark horse; in reality, he’s a dog, but he’s a really smart dog, and he reminds me of the dog from another book I read this year called Lessons in Chemistry; that novel was about dogs with their own ideas and thoughts, which I like to believe are also true in real life.

They travel, Joyce wants to find a shop, Donna is happy, Chris is happy, Ibrahim looks attractive, Elizabeth doesn’t want Stephen to get worse, the murder club meets on a Thursday, Elizabeth is a secret agent with influential friends, Bogden digs a hole, Bogden fills a hole—pretty much the same thing happens in every book.

The plot was boring and predictable, most of the characters are one-dimensional, and the operation’s mastermind was an absolute moron despite the fact that he ought to have known exactly what to do and how to get away with it.
