The Chemistry of Love by Sariah Wilson
How is it possible for Anna Ellis, a nerdy, clever, and desperately in love cosmetic chemist, to win over Craig Kimball, the love of her life and also her employer? The sympathetic (and appealing) CEO half-brother of Craig, Marco, is the solution. The makeup tycoon recognizes Craig as the obscenely aggressive rival he is. Craig wants whatever Marco possesses. If Anna wants to play, she can be that person.
All Anna and Marco have to do are act as though they are in love, and the rumours will start. If the attraction experiment is successful, an envious Craig will intervene and grant Anna her happily ever after—if there weren’t one flaw in the strategy. Marco is more complex than he first appears.
Anna’s feelings are starting to feel eerily real with each phoney date. Put chemistry to the blame. It is occasionally explosive, unpredictable, and exhilarating. Who are they to contest science if Anna and Marco are truly in love?

Anastasia (Anna) Ellis, 26, is a talented cosmetic chemist who has spent the last four years working in the R&D division of a large firm called Minx Cosmetics. She is nerdy, shy, and socially awkward. The only other female scientist working in Minx’s R&D division is Catalina Diaz, a fellow cosmetic chemist in her early twenties (and the only non-WASP character in this novel). From the moment Catalina began working at Minx six months ago, she and Anna instantly became best friends, and it appears that she is the only friend that the impoverished, estranged Anna has ever had.
Twenty-six-year-old Anastasia Ellis is a devoted scientific nerd. She loves rom-coms, loves science fiction and fantasy, and reads scientific papers in her free time. She has some very strong beliefs about the series. She is currently unhappy with her life, which is unfortunate. Since graduating from USC, she has worked as a cosmetic chemist in the R&D department at Minx Cosmetics, doing what she loves, but her life appears to be at a standstill.
The environmental chemist’s grandmother of Anna has never been in favour of her chosen profession. She views Anna’s intelligence as being wasted on cosmetics, a pointless area. Anna cannot argue with her while she is lecturing her about the barriers that women encounter in the field of chemistry. Prior to the hiring of her new closest friend, Catalina Diaz, six months ago, Anna had been the sole female chemist at Minx throughout her four years there. At Minx, Anna is underpaid and undervalued. Jerry, her supervisor, has a habit of shaming her in front of everyone. He has never taken Anna’s suggestions seriously despite her excellent track record and consistent outcomes.
Anna hopes to one day launch her own line of cosmetics. She has a lot of ideas, but the resources in her home lab are limited and the equipment is expensive. She saves what little money she has, but she still needs to work hard before she can do the kinds of research at home that she wants to. She is particularly intrigued by the possibility of fascinating new combinations of moods and makeup in the field of neuro cosmetics, which studies the relationship between the neurological system and cosmetics.
She still stays with her grandparents since she loves pricey laboratory equipment and cannot afford to move out. When her parents died in an accident when she was only twelve years old, they adopted her and reared her. Her parents and grandparents both had charming tales of falling in love at first sight and being married right away. Anna thinks happily ever after exists.
Though she admits that relationships have not exactly been one of her top priorities, she wants her own happily ever after. It may be time for her to make some changes in her life because she has been overly preoccupied with her studies and profession.
For the past two years, Anna has been in love with Craig Kimball. She is convinced they are meant to be together because the enchanted VP of R&D at Minx saved her when her car broke down in the parking lot two years prior. Anna thinks Craig is her hero in shining armour despite the fact that they had only spoken a couple of times for a total of fewer than ten minutes…
