The Children’s Homer by Padraic Colum
Go back in time to the fabled battle between the Trojans and Achilles, who was supported by the gods. And go with Odysseus as he navigates choppy waters while dodging dangers like the scary Scylla and spinning Charybdis, the alluring Circe, and the realm of the wild Cyclôpes. Padraic Colum creates a breathtaking journey with all the drama and power that Homer intended by combining narrative threads from The Iliad and The Odyssey.

It has a very traditional tone, yet it isn’t preachy, and the language is amazing. Ted Hughes and Padraic Colum both wrote poetry. Aside from the actual narrative, I believe that the use of language in each of these works is what unites them. His use of language is superb in this one as well. also the illustrations. They’re really art deco, black and white, and understated. It’s still how I picture those gods, goddesses, and heroes.
