The Complete Dirty Plotte by Julie Doucet

In the 1990s, Julie Doucet entered the comic book industry as a fully developed cartoonist. Her comic book work Dirty Plotte was groundbreaking in terms of storytelling and the medium. Her stories are open, humorous, and personal, probing the intricacies of the feminine psyche while highlighting the frailty of the males in her life. Her work is rich and assured, consistently reflecting the wit and humour of its creator. Before switching to other media, Doucet worked in comics for fifteen years. Her impact on the genre is profound, and Dirty Plotte is unquestionably one of the most recognizable comic book series ever produced.

The Complete Dirty Plot The entire comic book series, including the well-known My New York Diary, is collected by Julie Doucet, along with rare comics and never-before-seen artwork; a copy of the first Dirty Plotte mini-comic; essays by curator Dan Nadel and academic Martine Delvaux about Julie Doucet’s comics legacy and feminist influence; an interview by comics scholar Christian Gasser; and anecdotes from Jami Attenberg, Adrian Tomine, and others.

Doucet presents a brand-new comic that examines her complex relationship with gender and the significance of her interactions with female readers using the covers of this two-book box set as inspiration. Dirty Plotte is a fascinating trip through the body of work of a renowned cartoonist that is startlingly honest, violent, and humorous.

One of the best comic book creators of all time is Julie Doucet, and I’ve spent a lot of time attempting to track down some of her rarer works. However, it is currently available in two large books and one mini-comic. Aside from that, this is one of the nicest collected editions I’ve ever purchased. It’s a pleasure to read because everything is portrayed with the kind of artistry and attention to detail one would typically expect from Doucet. I really appreciate how every issue of the first Dirty Plottes is reproduced exactly as it was in the flimsy comics, down to the colour front and back covers. You can lose yourself in a book like this.
