Nynaeve is the one who stands out, and we have to wonder if she is veering from character into being unrealistic. Egwene is a girl out for experience and committed to her own life (a career-oriented lady, you would say). When Trollocs invade their town on what appears to be an ordinary day, our group learns that the forces of the Dark One are more real than just terrible tales used to keep kids in line. The (first) shock of their life then befalls our gullible villagers when they learn that Moiraine is an Aes Sedai and Lan is her Warder.
When bizarre, malevolent, human/animal hybrids known as Trollocs invade their town on what appears to be a routine day, our gang learns that the forces of the Dark One are more real than just terrible tales used to keep kids in line. Then, when they learn that Moiraine is an Aes Sedai and Lan is her Warder, our gullible villagers receive the shock of their lives. Aes Sedai and Warders are each other’s warrior allies in this world, where they wield the One Power and are blamed for the world’s problems. Then, believing that the Trollocs are hunting the three boys, Moiraine snatches Rand, Mat, and Perrin away from the hamlet to defend it from the Trollocs.
