Police were summoned to 16 Cheyne Walk 25 years ago due to reports of a baby wailing. A healthy 10-month-old was contentedly cooing in her cot in the bedroom when they arrived. Three dead victims, all clothed in black, were found in the kitchen downstairs next to a hastily written message. The other four kids who were said to reside at Cheyne Walk were also missing.
The Family Upstairs tells the riveting tale of three intertwined families residing in a home with the ugliest of secrets from the “bone-chilling suspense” master (People).
Libby Jones received a sizable inheritance for her 25th birthday: a massive Chelsea mansion worth millions! Libby was reared by her adoptive family in a firmly middle-class home after being orphaned as a young child and knew very little about her birth parents. She was aware that there might have been some money there and that she would inherit something when she turned 25, but she had no idea the amount would even come close to that.
She discovered there was a lot more to her story than she could have ever anticipated after talking with the estate attorney. Her parents were previously extraordinarily affluent and well-connected, but nevertheless, their lives took a significant turn.
They appeared to have been cult members who made a suicide pact when they passed away. The Chelsea mansion, which had previously been furnished with the finest items money could buy, was almost completely vacant. They were malnourished and in abject poverty. Children had previously resided in the home. Although Libby actually had a brother and a sister, there was no evidence of their existence when the bodies were found. In an effort to locate her lost siblings, Libby launched an investigation out of desperation to learn what had happened to her family. What she discovered developed into an intriguing tale that kept me up late into the night unable to put it down.
