The Informationist by Taylor Stevens
Vanessa “Michael” Munroe works for businesses, leaders of states, private clients, and anybody else who can afford to pay for her special kind of expertise. She specializes in information—expensive information. Munroe, who was raised by missionary parents in lawless central Africa, began living with a notorious gunrunner and his band of mercenaries when she was barely fourteen years old. She developed her own reputation for years as his protege and gained the respect of the most deadly men in the forest before something made her flee. She spent nearly ten years working from her base in Dallas to create a new life and successful career.

Until now. She has been recruited by a Texas oil billionaire to locate his daughter, who went missing in Africa four years ago. She usually works in a different field, but she can’t pass up the challenge. Munroe finds herself back in the places of her childhood, betrayed, cut off from society, and left for dead after being drawn deeply into the mystery of the missing girl. She must confront the history that she has spent so long trying to forget if she is to have any chance of leaving the jungle and the demons that drive her.
The Informationist, the first novel in the Vanessa Michael Munroe series, introduces an exciting new author and is fascinating, clever, and perfectly timed.
The Informationist kept my interest for sure. This one follows the same pattern of unexpected turns and danger for the protagonist. The grimy, incredibly accurate depiction of some of the darkest regions of Africa is what makes this book stand out. But like in other thrillers, the necessity for a shocking twist at the climax results in progressively absurd situations and factual errors. Without coincidences, underlying intentions, and near escapes from disaster, what would a thriller be? This book comes very close to breaking free from an old pattern. but only almost.
When Vanessa left her home at the age of 13 to join a bandit gang, she put herself in a situation where the abuse could occur. Vanessa struggles to fit in with society. Even in her private life, when around the people she loves, she battles the impulse to use violence. She is the finest in her field of intellect since she is very intelligent and perceptive. She uses the tiniest amount of glue to hold it all together and transforms picassoesque bits of knowledge into great masterpieces of brilliance. When anything goes wrong or she doesn’t receive what she wants, be careful. She is powerful, smart, and thinks like the evil people since growing up, she was one of them. Now, she can survive thanks to her tragic history.
