The Mapmaker’s Apprentice by C.J. Archer

India and Matt are tasked with locating a missing apprentice from the Mapmakers’ Guild. By posing as a married couple and infiltrating the guild, they learn that not everyone there is who they claim to be and that the lad’s uncanny maps have stoked jealousy, distrust, and terror.

India and Matt are in possession of one of the apprentice’s magic maps, and they must combine their cunning and India’s inexperienced, nascent magic to locate him. But as they dig deeper, they find more sinister schemes, including connections between the Watchmakers’ and Mapmakers’ Guilds and an old magical artefact hidden beneath London’s streets.

Matt’s life is in jeopardy as well as the apprentice’s as the circle of suspicion grows and the adversaries get closer. Someone will do everything in their power to keep him from learning the identity of the person who can repair the watch that keeps him alive.

On Thursday, the group finds out that Mirth picks up his money on Wednesdays. The same day, Commissioner Munro hires Matt and India to look for his missing kid, who is not his own child. He provides a photo and a map for them. He was last seen leaving the master mapmaker’s shop after starting his apprenticeship. India appears magical on London’s beautiful map.

To stay in Munro’s good graces and because Sheriff Payne has just arrived and is probably going to cause trouble, they decide to take the case. Additionally, they keep seeking Dupont, the factory watchmaker who may be Chronos.

The narrative is set in London in the 1890s and has the delightful tension between Matt and India as well as a nasty sheriff from the United States. This tale centres on the disappearance of a magician and mapmaker’s apprentice who happens to be the son of one of Glass’ friends. India is one of them and is still developing her skills. The plot is romantic, thrilling, and frequently humorous. Ms Archer is a talented author.

Glass and Steel are requested to find a young mapmaker’s apprentice who has vanished. When India touches one of the gorgeous maps the apprentice produced, her fingers heat, notifying her that both the map and he are magical. In the meantime, Matt’s aunt Letitia is attempting to set up marriages for him with any suitable young lady who has at least a small amount of noble blood. Cyclops, Duke, and Matt’s cousin Willie join in the fun as they go through the main areas of Victorian-era London. The need to conceal their magical skills owing to the hostility of non-magical people is also a theme in this novel, which also has another guild, this one for mapmakers.
