Lily leads a structured existence. I suppose so. She is a therapist, and she is aware that everyone conceals something. she too. Later, in her hand-painted VW van with her 16-year-old son riding shotgun, the sensual and free-spirited Arwen Harper arrives in town. The secrecy of Story Cove has vanished overnight. So Arwen may be more familiar with her new neighbours than they are with themselves.

Now that someone is deceased, it appears to have been murder. brutal and individual. Detective Rue Duval’s astute eye is drawn to death. Rue’s role is to make secrets public. She is, however, a pro at retaining them. One thing becomes abundantly evident as the lives of three women intertwine: when it comes to surviving, regular people are capable of the worst deeds.

Psychologist Lily hears her husband enter the house after hearing him emerge shirtless from a shed in the backyard. In her home office, Lily is holding a session with a new client, and it takes every ounce of professionalism to pay attention. Early in the morning, her husband Tom had informed her that he was going for a run. Since he had been gone for so long and the two of them had such a heated argument the night before, she was starting to worry about him. She is curious as to why he is now returning now. Then why did he remove his shirt from the storage building?

Matthew, the small son of Tom and Lily, is upstairs in his room. When his father walks into the shed, he looks out the window and sees a big dark stain on his running shirt. Matthew observes in awe as his father leaves the shed without clothing. He takes a picture while concentrating on his camera. Matthew, who considers himself a detective, uses his new camera to take pictures of everything. He records every neighbour as they unwittingly go about their daily lives. One neighbour hiding alcohol bottles is captured on camera. Matthew is desperate to get a picture of the cloaked figure across the street. He occasionally notices him gazing intently at his home at night, but he hasn’t had any luck. His train of thought is abruptly cut short when he hears sirens approaching his driveway from down the street. Why are police visiting his home?

The pre-teen daughter of Tom and Lily is Phoebe. She has a new infatuation on Joe, an older boy who attends her school. He is 15 and she is 12. Phoebe typically wears makeup since she is aware that she can pass for 16 when she does so. In a modest rented cottage behind a large house on Phoebe’s block, Joe lives with his single mother. After Lily told Joe about her crush on him, the two got into a heated argument. Lily wants her daughter to stay away from the older male at all costs. Phoebe has no intention of ceasing to see Joe.

Tom and his employees frequent a bar every Friday night where Joe’s mother Arwen works. Arwen and the men have become friends. Tom assisted Arwen in obtaining the rental cottage on their street, though Lily is unaware of this. Arwen has started to flirt with Tom, but she’s doing it for another reason.
Each character is under a great deal of strain. The burden on the family, especially Lily, increases when Arwen’s body is discovered at the base of a cliff close to the running route Tom was using. Tom is detained. Tom is suspected by the police of pushing Arwen off the cliff.
