The Plastic Magician’s protagonist is an endearingly eccentric, kind, bright, creative, good company, and dependable. Without detracting from it with a weak heroine, this novel continues the intriguing world-building of the series’ prior books. It contains every adventure. From falling in love to being kidnapped to receiving an honour from her mentor at a significant conference. All the magic crafts are there, much like the world’s fairs of the past. A magician who is extremely envious sets out to take the item that has brought Alvie joy and notoriety. With her first kiss, Bennett has increased her happiness even further.

In her fully developed universe of smelters, folders, gaffers, and plastic magicians, Ms Holmberg introduces new characters.
As always, Charlie is a superb writer. She makes stunning and distinctive universes. Her plot and character development are both excellent. I adore how she makes sure each of her characters stands out by giving them unique quirks and characteristics. One of my favourite of her characters was Alive. I identified with her awkwardness and preference for functionality above maintaining the status quo.

Although the plot was intriguing, it lacked the preceding chapter’s excitement and adventure. It resembled a slice-of-life story with a tiny amount of shenanigans added. Not that slice-of-life isn’t very much my thing. Simply said, it was very different from the earlier books. There was obviously a left turn in the narrative.

Alvie has completed her training and formed a bond with the Plastic medium. She is departing from America to begin her apprenticeship in the mystical art of polymaking in London. As new spells are invented in this field of magic, there is a lot to learn, especially from her mentor Magician Praff, a well-known polymaker.  Alvie is thrilled to be working with him because he is behind some of the most amazing magical spells.

Alvie gets lost on the train as she travels to London, but a young man helps her out. Despite their immediate attraction, she is unsure of when she will next see him. She is welcomed into the home of magician Praff, and with Alvie’s excitement for polymaking, she rekindles his bond with his line of work. As part of her education, Alvie is assigned to assist in a hospital. The man from the train station turns out to be the brother of the amputee patient she meets. She gets the notion to create lifelike prostheses using Polymaking magic as a result of her new relationship.

The two, along with Praff, devise new spells to produce a fantastic and brilliant new prosthetic device. However, when a rival polymaker from Praff learns about their plans, he makes numerous attempts to steal their concepts and claim ownership of the amazing new use of plastic for himself. Alvie must push herself to the limit and utilize all of her natural powers to foil their foe in order to safeguard their creation and save their lives when a final onslaught threatens to take their life.
