The Portable Dorothy Parker by Dorothy Parker
The lack of familiarity with Dorothy Parker is not just a problem for the global audience. Here, she is no longer highly known. Short stories, book reviews, and poetry were just a few of the genres that Dorothy Parker published in. She authored humorous poems, theatre reviews, and articles for The New Yorker, not the kind of poetry that people typically associate with John Donne. She was best known for being a member of the Algonquin Round Table, a group of writers who frequented the Algonquin Hotel and were noted for their sharp humour. They became well-known because one of them, FPA [Franklin P Adams], wrote a newspaper column on their witticisms virtually every day.

Simply stating that Dorothy Parker was outstanding or bright is insufficient. From a distance, her enormous influence on the literary world is difficult to see. Since I’ve always liked Dorothy Parker’s poetry, I figured I’d check out this book to see what the rest of her writing was like. I have barely completed half of it so far. The stories are decent, and some of the characters’ actions are applicable to relationships in the present. Worth reading if you also enjoy short stories.
