A young girl resides in a Vermont mansion with her wealthy employer, Mr Locke, who has hired her father to care for the child while he travels the area conducting some sort of research. January, the young girl, regrettably feels forgotten and abandoned by her father, who visits her seldom and only for brief periods of time. January finds a door when she is seven. No. Wait. She comes across a Door.

Because it is not just a regular door and doesn’t open into another room, it needs to be capitalized. It does take you somewhere else—to another universe. She attempts to tell Mr. Locke about her finding, but he believes she is overstimulated and strips her bedroom of any stimulating objects before locking her within.

After learning that her father is missing and assumed dead ten years later, she comes upon a book that completely alters her life. Sadly, some people don’t want her to learn the information contained in the book. discovering that the Door she found so long ago was not only real but also one of countless. Her mother enters through one of the doors.

She hasn’t seen her mother in years. Instead of parenting January, her father has been looking for the mother. However, there are some who wish to prevent January from finding out anything about the Doors as she starts her own search. This book’s wording was exquisite. It was beautiful and poetic, perfect for this tale.
