The Third Bullet by John Dickson Carr
It is written by Carter Dickson, a pen name for John Dickson Carr, an American author who was a major anglophile and spent a lot of time in England. In the 1930s and 1940s, he wrote a lot and used several different pen names. He was the master of the enigma in a closed chamber. When he was younger, he read The Mystery of the Yellow Room, fell in love with it, and became obsessed with the locked room conundrum. His best mysteries are incredibly smart, and he had a tremendous amount of influence.
The Third Bullet by John Dickson Carr
The five in between were fantastic! There is a pushy young French newspaper reporter who picks up on details that Scotland Yard misses. Unsolved for twenty years, a locked chamber mystery was finally solved by the ridiculous H.M. For Dr. Fell, a puzzle is available. Even a romance element may be seen in one of the stories. I’m happy I purchased this compilation and suggest it to other Carr fans. or to any fan of old mysteries.
