Scoutmaster Tim Riggs takes a group of youngsters on a weekend camping trip into the Canadian wilderness once a year. This custom is as reassuring and dependable as sharing a fantastic ghost story by a raging bonfire. The group of guys works well together. Together with Ephraim and Max, who are both well-regarded and laid back, there is Kent, one of the most popular students in the school, as well as Newt, a nerd, and Shelley, an outcast. The best example of classic pulp and gore horror is “The Troop.” An unforgiving tale that seizes your terror and won’t let go is created by combining an isolated island, five incoherent boy scouts, their rather ineffective leader, and a random stranger. This stranger emerges out of nowhere as his body is being consumed by a terrible parasite.

The Headline book “The Troop” was released in 2014, and it is already tapping its little feet in anticipation of being made into a box office juggernaut. It’s a full-on, gory, boy horror book told in two narrative streams: the first is about what happened on the island, and the second is about the aftermath and is written in an epistolary fashion using court records, psychiatric reports, and newspapers. This book is about a troop of scouts who quickly realize they must mature and assume leadership once a mystery visitor shows up in their camp. In this dark spin on a creature feature story, the grownups must make tough, mature choices as they succumb to a monster that consumes them from the inside out.
