To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini
Kira Navárez fantasized about living on alien worlds. She has now awoken from a nightmare. Kira discovers an alien artefact while conducting a normal reconnaissance mission on an uncolonized planet. She is initially thrilled, but when the ancient dust surrounding her starts to move, her joy quickly turns to horror.
Kira embarks on a galactic voyage of exploration and transformation as conflict breaks out among the stars. She had no idea what to expect from the first encounter, and subsequent occurrences test the very boundaries of what it means to be human. Kira is dealing with her own tragedies as Earth and its colonies are on the verge of extinction. Now, Kira might be the last and best hope for humanity.

A xenobiologist finds an ancient alien organism on an uncharted planet, according to the novel. As it circles around her and envelops her, this curiosity transforms into fear.
Kira is a fantastic main character. She’s been thrust into a real nightmare, but she’s also intelligent, and caring, and has demonstrated a genuine concern for those she loves. A battle for existence across the galaxy. Her development as a person and a character are quick but enjoyable to read. Only after finishing it and turning back a few hundred pages do you realize how much she has changed; it doesn’t feel hurried or forced.
She transforms into an entirely capable person from a terrified, bewildered, and lost woman who struggles with her guilt once the suit appears. By the end of Part V, she has undergone a significant change—certainly for the better. The biggest changes take place in Part 6, but not in the sense of “Character Development.”
The Jellies don’t seem over the top or like they were taken straight out of a children’s book, as some seem to believe. They are introduced in a very conventional manner, and as the novel goes on, you realize that not all of them are actually terrible. The Maw and the nightmares, on the other hand, are the very definition of such.
It is a panic-induced creation that aims to eat as much life as it can. It produces an abomination of life, space travel, and spaceships. An intriguing species that is completely unexpected at the start of the novel is the corrupted Seed.
