Voyager by Diana Gabaldon

Diana Gabaldon continues the narrative of Claire Randall and Jamie Fraser that she started with the now-classic book Outlander and continued in Dragonfly in Amber. This is a rich, vivid story. Diana Gabaldon creates magic once more in this thrilling and completely unforgettable book, taking us from the Scottish battlefields of the eighteenth century to the West Indies.

His demise. However, he noticed that his nose was violently throbbing, which seemed weird given the situation. Sadly, Jamie Fraser is still alive; nevertheless, he is in hell. He is not worried about his men or his wounds as he awakens among the dead on Culloden Field; instead, he is worried about his wife and their unborn child.

Lord, please keep her safe, he prayed fervently. She and the youngster. He will say this prayer often throughout the course of the following 20 years, never knowing whether Claire made it back to the safety of her own time after navigating the standing stones but always hoping that she did.

She is safe, but because she believes Jamie is dead for good, she is forced to live without a heart. Their daughter Brianna is her only source of solace. But now that their daughter is an adult, she learns that Jamie has survived, and she must make a life-altering choice: She can either stay with her beloved daughter or she can venture into Scotland’s perilous past in search of the man who was her heart and soul, sustained only by the hope that, if she finds him, they will still be acquainted.

This book once more opens on April 16, 1746, at Culloden Field. Spending some time with Jamie allows us to gain insight into his life since his time with Claire twenty years ago. A couple of time leaps occur, first to 1968 in Inverness, where the search for Jamie has officially begun, and then to Boston, where Claire is packing up her life in anticipation of the day when Roger Wakefield discovers Jamie in the archives. This will discuss Claire’s loss of Frank at that time as well as some details of her working relationship with her close buddy Joe Abernathy. Watch for Claire’s analysis of the skeletal remains. Then, though, Roger sends word, and the time has arrived.

the reconciliation of Claire and Jamie. It’s one of my all-time favourite episodes, and it’s what made me decide to start listening to this story earlier than planned. Gabaldon didn’t make a big deal out of the incident in her writing, but all the emotions came from the time you spent living Jamie and Claire’s journey with them.

Gabaldon picks up right where she left off after our pair are reunited, and the plot moves along at a steady speed that will put you through the wringer. Jamie and Claire seem to be up against fate at every turn as they travel across continents and oceans on the Voyager. This book contains so many highs and lows that you will occasionally feel worn out. Furthermore, discussing any of the key plot issues would reveal too much of the story. It’s so difficult to write a review for a book you’ve read a lot because you want to talk about all your favourite parts, but you can’t because you don’t want to ruin the first-time reader’s extremely special experience.
