When Alice faints while working out on her spinning bike at the gym, she hits her head as she falls off the bike. She discovers when she awakens that she has lost ten years of her life! She finds out that she’s set to celebrate her thirty-ninth birthday even though, in her head, she’s still 29 years old and expecting her first kid! Alice has no understanding of what’s happening precisely yet! What will Alice think of her adult self, how will she respond to all the changes taking place all around her, and what will she eventually take away from it all?

Alice is in for more surprises in the hospital. Alice observes how old and worn-out her sister Elisabeth appears when she arrives at the hospital. She also acknowledges that their bond doesn’t appear to be as strong as she believes it to be. Even worse, Alice discovers that she is not only not pregnant but also the mother of three children—three children that, to make matters worse, she completely forgets about. She has no memory of having them when she was a child, and this terrifies her.

The worst is still to come, though. Alice hears through her sister that they are being divorced and that it won’t be a particularly amicable separation as she lies there hoping her husband Nick will arrive since he would know what to do. Alice is in awe! She is completely devoted to Nick. Who has she become into? Alice is forced to care for her children, who she cannot recall, at home while marvelling at the magnificent improvements that have been made. When she learns that she has a boyfriend as well, it overwhelms her.

Given how much she adores her husband Nick, she is unable to have a boyfriend, but meeting Nicholas makes Alice realize the numerous changes their marriage has undergone. Alice discovers she doesn’t really like the person she has become as she navigates this new world of school events, mommy’s groups, personal trainers, and even cell phones. Why is there no chocolate in the house? She seems to have turned into this overly busy person who has little time left for the things that really matter. When Alice’s memories gradually start to return to her, she must make choices about her future and the kind of person she wants to be.

There is a lot more to What Alice Lost than just a woman losing her memory. It goes far deeper than that, addressing problems like infidelity, love, family, infertility, and marriage. Would you be satisfied with the person you have become if you could go back in time ten years and take a peek ahead? Are you the individual you had hoped to be?
