When in Rome by Sarah Adams

Amelia Rose, better known to her loving followers as Rae Rose, is exhausted from years of upholding her “princess of pop” reputation. She sets out in the middle of the night for a break in Rome—that is, Rome, Kentucky—inspired by her favourite Audrey Hepburn movie, Roman Holiday.

Noah Walker makes it obvious that he doesn’t have the time or sympathy for celebrity problems when he discovers Amelia on his front lawn in her broken-down vehicle. He doesn’t have time since he’s too busy managing the pie shop his grandmother left him and telling his kind but nosy neighbours to shut up. In spite of his better judgment, he lets her stay in his guest room—but just for as long as it takes to fix her car—after which she is left alone.

When Rae Rose becomes Amelia, Noah begins to see a different side of her; she is sweet and silly but lonely due to her years in the spotlight. He is compelled to approach her. Amelia will soon have to return to her glamorous life as a touring actress, but in the interim, Noah will teach her all the endearing small-town experiences she has been missing and she will assist him in widening his heart.

Even Audrey had to leave Rome at some point, but Amelia can’t help but fall for the quaint town and her cranky tour guide. Pop star Rae Rose is Amelia. She realizes she is unhappy with her life and makes the secret decision to go on vacation. She favours Audrey Hepburn as a movie star. As Audrey did on Roman Holiday, she plans to travel to Rome; but, as Italy is too far away, she instead travels to Rome, Kentucky. On the outskirts of the city, her automobile breaks down. When a man knocks on her window, she won’t open it or get out of the car. He returns to his house, where her automobile is parked on his front lawn, after becoming irate.

Although it is too hot for her to remain in her car, the man, Noah, requests Mabel, his grandmother’s friend, to attest to his moral character. Amelia gets out of the car after speaking with Mabel and spends the night in Noah’s spare room with the intention of making it to the bed and breakfast in the town the following morning. When she discovers that fixing her automobile will take two weeks, Noah grudgingly offers his extra room. Despite their shared attraction, they both want to avoid becoming intimate because they know she will only be in town for a short while. Will it function?

It was entertaining to watch Amelia imitate Noah, learn things about him, talk nonstop to him, and do all the little things she does to irritate him. An ex-fiancée ruined Noah’s relationship. He is not readily trusted. He falls in love with her while knowing she is simply a passing fling in his life. Noah also attracts Amelia. She has been spoilt by the lifestyle of a pop star and has little self-care knowledge. But she is confidently safe with Noah.
